Missing Dog Luna has been Found!

Luna, who went missing from Avon Dassett at the end of May was found and captured near Farnborough last night. She is safe and well apart from some sores where her harness rubbed her. The local village community put in a tremendous effort to keep reporting sightings and looking for her. Luna’s owners say:

“We’d really like to thank everyone who helped in so many ways and it’s great that there are still so many good people in the world willing to help others.”

Thanks to everyone who helped!

Consultation on Children’s Centres

Southam Children’s Centre

Warwickshire County Council is proposing new ways to offer services and support to children and their families, and in particular children under 5.

The council is putting forward changes to how services are provided to local children and their families by remodelling its Children’s Centres and is considering different ways to make sure families who use them get the right support for the right issue at the right time. The proposals aim to save £1.12m from council budget and also fit plans to transform children’s services.

The consultation commenced on Thursday 29 June and will run through to Monday 11 September.

We understand how passionately people feel about their local services and we appreciate that these proposals will attract widespread attention. As part of the consultation we want to hear from as many people as possible including local families, staff, service providers and local residents. To assist in any enquiries that you may have, I would ask that you visit the consultation information available on www.warwickshire.gov.uk/ask

For those who want to complete the questionnaire online please go to https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FamilyHubs  and for further information go to www.warwickshire.gov.uk/familyhubsconsultation

The consultation information is also available in alternative formats via familyhubs@warwickshire.gov.uk or phone 01926 742350

Public meetings will also take place across the county starting on 20 July, and the dates and times will be made available on the consultation website.

Avon Dassett Open Gardens Raises Over £2700 for Charity!

This year’s Open Gardens took place last Sunday, 2nd July. The weather was kind and, although visitor numbers were down on last year, it was still a busy day, particularly on ‘teas’ where over 300 portions of cake were sold!

The day raised £2,529 for National Garden Schemes and £248- for the Parish Council towards the upkeep of the tubs in the village. A breakdown of this year and last years results are attached.

So, thank you to everyone who contributed by opening their garden, helping with getting things ready for the day, or helping on the day. And certainly not forgetting everyone who donated our lovely cakes!

Engage Festival for the Over 50s

The Engage festival will kick off on 30th Sept with an information fair at King Edward School, Stratford.  Over the next week there will be various events & activities, some being one off events organised specifically for the festival and others will be activities that happen regularly.  The idea is to give people lots of info and ideas about activities they can get involved in as well as the various support organisations & relevant businesses that are out there for older people to access when they need to.  We’re aiming to prevent people become socially isolated and encourage people to get involved in something in their community.  The festival will take place mainly in Stratford on Avon but with events happening across the district.

If Avon Dassett would like to get involved in the festival by hosting an event – an afternoon tea, a watercolour class, a board game afternoon or something even better – please do get in touch.  Creative, interesting, innovative ideas may receive financial support.
